Allow us to introduce you to the Institute of Old Catholic Studies (IOCS).
The Christian faith demands to be celebrated. The Old Catholic Communion is a is first and foremost a celebrating communion of communities. But faith will also deepen through mutual conversation, through reflection and through study. We can help, guide and stimulate each other in this.
Born from an initial desire to create a standardized formative process for clergy, the goal of the Institute of Old Catholic Studies was to form Old Catholic clergy who can be in healthy, pastoral relationships within themselves and with others. In this way, clergy are able to become courageous, compassionate, and relational leaders equipped with the tools to prepare the people of God for the loving work of God in this world.
Our attention led us to understand that part of this formation must be rooted in an understanding of Old Catholicism and who we are as Old Catholics. In tandem, the Institute heard a desire from laity for educational opportunities regarding Old Catholicism, specifically, and Christianity, in general.
Thus, the Institute seeks to respond to these needs.
At present, we have five essential formation units exploring Trinitarian relational theology, Old Catholic development and history, sacraments, and stewardship. In addition, we have other courses available: Ecumenism and history of the Old Catholic Churches, sacraments, Old Catholic ecclesiology, pertinent book studies, as well as various Scripture studies.
We are excited about these initial curricula offered by the Institute of Old Catholic Studies. More courses and other educational opportunities will be added over time. We cordially invite you to explore the various offerings, to participate in them or to come up with ideas and wishes yourself.
Check out the Institute for Old Catholic Studies! Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
And may the Holy Spirit breathe her wisdom upon us all.
